A Thursay Night Football Story

This is Connor--#84

Position: Starting Left Defensive End
for the Lone Peak Knights (6th grade)
He LOVES football!!! He gets very excited about games and practises. (He has never been heard to complain about the LONG, HARD, SWEATY practises.)

Thursday night he had a GREAT game!! They beat the other team in a thrilling overtime! Connor had 3 quarterback sacks, 3 great tackles and even caused a fumble! His Mom noticed that on the last play of the game he was uncharacteristically slow to get up. She expressed worry to his Dad. But Connor was tough and didn't show signs of pain.

His FANS were there to cheer him on! (AKA little brother-wearing his jersey from last year, parents and awesome Aunts, Uncles, Grandpa and Grandma!!) He was HAPPY and had FUN! No real sign of injury until we were in the car on the way home and he expressed pain in this thumb that was hurting BAD! The decision was made to visit the Dr. in the morning.

After a LONG morning going back and forth between Alpine Pediatrics and the hospital for x-rays, and back to the Dr. office, the heartbreaking result was THIS:

A broken thumb--right on the growth plate. No more football this season! This is a SERIOUS DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

After the splint was in place, with hopes of cheering him up, his Mom offered a lunch date, of his choice. He chose a slice of pepperoni pizza at Costco(eh...really..not Cafe Rio..or even Quiznos?...). And Costco pizza is what he got!!

THE END...but not the end of football for Connor---HE WILL BE BACK!!!!

Oh man. Benjamin and I have been thinking about him all day. Mom called me this morning and told me that he might have broken his thumb. I'm so sorry. What a huge bummer for him.
Ben and I drew him some pictures and sent them in the mail today for him. I hope Benjamin's picture of Connor with a broken thumb doesn't rub it in.... I didn't really think of that until we sent it. Anyway, we sure love him a lot. He is so sweet and good, and a pleasure to be around. I can't wait to see him in a few months.

Connor- You look like such a stud in your uniform and pads! We are so sorry you broke your thumb...that is such a bummer! We think your cast looks pretty cool too though! Hang in there! We love you so much and wished we were able to see you play. Maybe next year....
PS Cali and Madison wished you were able to get a pink cast.

How sad! Noah just broke his arm too, but luckily for him his lazy Mom forgot to sign him up for fall soccer before the deadline! So, we didn't have to deal with that disappointment! I hope he heals well- that's scary it's on the growth plate.

Sorry it took me so long to respond... Ok, so if you scroll down to the bottom of my blog there's a link that says designs by lena, click on that and you can look at all of the templates, some of them are 3 column templates. Then you copy and paste the code into your HTML section is "layout". Hope that helps!

This is such a bummer since Con had such a FABULOUS first two games - I think he had two quarter back sacks and several GREAT tackles of the receivers in that last game. We were all very impressed! They are going to have a BIG whole in their defense without him. I was so sorry to hear that the thumb was broken, but I know Con will continue to go to practices and learn what he can. We'll see him back next year! XO Grandma/Mom

Oh no...that is such a bummer. I can't believe how tough he was being after the game. I could hardly even tell he was hurt at all. He played so hard on Thursday, I can't wait to see him next season!

That is a big disappointment! But, what a tough little dude you have! Hopefully he can learn lots from the sidelines and come back next year with a vengeance!

Oh, what a bummer! I remember the first year Mitchell played tackle football he got a serious break in his arm and was out for the season too. All tough athletes have a story like this to tell and you're a brave hero! Hope you heal quickly Connor. We are cheering you on to next season:)

Matt and I both broke fingers playing sports in highschool which caused us to miss part of the season, and I know we agree... it stinks! Hopefully this is the last one though. Connor looked like the MAN out there playing though. Griff and I are excited to go watch him again when the thumb heals. :)
