Resolved

I LOVE the tradition of News Years Resolutions! (I have this same tradition on my birthday) I am a goal setter and a list maker! I get great satisfaction from checking things off and having something to work towards! I have put a lot of thought into what I want to do and how I want to grow during 2009. First of all I will try to let this talk guide me this year. But here are a few resolutions I shall do my best to live by this year... (by the way, all the blue and gray words are links you can click on, just for fun:)

1. Spend more time teaching my children the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Starting with our theme for 2009 "Putting on the Whole Armor of God". More on this to follow!

2. Getting into better shape. I will train for the Wasatch Back with some of my friends, run a 5K* this Spring and a 10k* in the Fall. Take up YOGA*. (*anyone want to join me??)

3. Be more creative--spice up my world a bit! I have a list a mile long of fun ideas and projects to beautify my home and yard that I want to do! I have a few circled that I will do this year!! Some involve sewing--wish me luck! I will keep ya posted!

4. Give more service. I am excited about this one! It will start with my family, and church work, but I have found that whenever I look for ways to serve others there are always so many opportunities!

5. Start working on genealogy. Including more regular temple service. I am excited!

6. Improve the way I feed my family. This article in the New York Times inspired me.

7. Have more PARTIES! My cute friend Becky gave me The Gathering Of Friends book at Christmas.I LOVE it! It is just full of beautiful ideas--it got me inspired to host more gatherings of the people I love!

I love your goals. I need to work on all of those things too. I'm so glad you like the cookbook! I totally thought of you when I saw it because you can totally do the things they did. You really have a talent as a cook!

I agree, starting a new year is just exciting! I'm totally a list-maker too. And maybe you should run the Magrath Days 5K with Eric and I (supposedly we're racing to see who wins, if I'm not pregnant of course:) if we go to Canada this year! I also love the picture of Brad clearing the driveway in shorts!

I think I might do the Magrath 5K this year, too. I'll see... running really makes my knees and hips hurt. That is why I love the stair climber so much... plus I think it is the closest thing at the gym like hiking, so it gets me ready for hunting! I'd love to do Yoga with you, too. Would you want to take a class or get videos? I know it is so good for you. I tried it once and was horribly unflexible. Oh, well... you have to start somewhere, right? Anyway, I like your new year's resolutions. I haven't gotten around to doing mine yet. Ack! SOmehow it is 1pm every day and I haven't accomplished anything except showering myself and the baby (and feeding him multiple times, of course). :) I don't know how you do it, sis!

Oops... I was signed in as Griffin, but it is me, Mindy, who wants to do Yoga with you. Haha! :)

The Gathering of Friends looks like a great book. Geneology is so much fun!

Okay, Mindy, that was the FUNNIEST post every - I usually don't read people's comments but when I saw Griff left such a long comment, I had to read. So he's interested in teh 5K, that's cool. Interested in Yoga, surprising but fine. Woah! He wants to do Yoga with Melanie?! This is a little odd.... HAHA! Then I knew something was up. So funny!
Anyway, Melanie - I love your resolutions! Thanks for sharing! I'm completely motivated. I read the article from the New York Times. I don't think I can get rid of my aerosol cooking oil spray. Just too convenient. But I agree about a lot of the stuff. I do like to have lemon juice in the fridge if I'm in a pinch. What did he say was "utterly worthless"? That was funny, but I can't remember what it was now. Oh yeah, dried parsley and basil. That's probably true. Anyway, it was interesting.

I just saw your post on the momsintopolitics blog. When I saw you had 5 boys I just had to ask, how are you doing? I am pregnant with boy no. 3. When this one is born my oldest will only be 3 1/2 (yeah, that's right, 3 boys in 3 1/2 years). I'm really really excited even though people seem to think I should be disappointed that I'm not having a girl. Tell me, is it rough and tumble all the time :)

Melanie, I loved reading about your goals for this year. You are such a cute mom and an amazing person. I wish I lived closer and could gleen wisdom from all of your experience.
