Award of Excellence for Connor

Last week we received a beautiful card in the mail informing us that Connor was receiving an Award of Excellence. It was to be presented at a banquet at the Alpine School District Office, and his parents were invited to attend. We asked Connor what this was all about and he had no idea. He was just excited to get checked out of school for a couple hours! When we got there today Dr. Hodson, his principal told us that he was asked to choose one student from his school to receive this award. He told us that when he asked the teachers, Connor was unanimously chosen for this honor.

Here is what it says "Connor is a sixth grade student in Mr. Hillier's class. He is an outstanding student by always working hard, turning in his assignments and showing great academic achievement. Connor approaches life's challenges with an upbeat and positive attitude. He always looks for the good in people and is highly respected by everyone."

Wow! We were so impressed! I mean we think Connor is an excellent young man, but it was such a treat to hear it from other people too! I also felt really grateful to the wonderful PTA volunteers who give so much of their time in service to our children, and schools. I could tell that this banquet was a lot of work to put on, and it meant so much to those honored (one student, one teacher and one volunteer at each school in our area) to feel appreciated and special. So, I decided right then to get more involved with the PTA. I happened to be sitting next to the PTA president for the 2009-10 year and I told her I would love to help! She wrote down my name and number--so I think I am committed! I am excited to be a part of such a wonderful organization!

Anyway, Good Job Conman!! We sure love you!

WOW!!!!!!!
Congratulations Connor. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO proud of you. The part that makes me happiest is that it says you "always look for the good in people" . . . you are a wonderful boy and I am so grateful that Heavenly Father sent you to us.
I just called Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Rice - they aren't very good with the computer, but they worked at it and found this blog, and they said to tell you they are proud of you too.
It thrills me that you are such a hard worker and are doing well with your school work. IT is neat that you are so respected at your school. That is pretty cool!
I love you "as big as the sky",
Grandma Sterzer

Congratulations to Connor! I am so proud of him, too! What a huge honor to be chosen out of his WHOLE school. I agree with all those great things that were written about him. I've always had a special place in my heart for my first nephew... and it is so fun to see him excelling in the world. I'm glad Brad and you were both able to attend. I love you guys! Congrats again Conman!

Congrats Connor! We are so proud of you and I am sure that this is the first of many awards you will receive during your school years. Keep up the good work and you will be on your way to becoming a true BYU cougar someday! I have to agree with Erin...you are quite handsome and so is your Daddy. Love ya!

I have always been impressed with Connor. He has always been sort of quiet and reserved. . . kind of "soft spoken". "Its the slow moving waters that usually run deep." In the long run it is the depth of soul that really matters. Its lucky we have one like Conman to be first (oldest). . . he'll be (and is) a great blessing to your family, Melanie, like you were to ours. Dad
