A Few Ideas to Get Ready For Fall

Are you getting excited for Fall? I am! I just LOVE this time of year. I have noticed a nice change in the air here in Tennessee, from hot and humid to light and cool, and I am thrilled. I know it is a little early but I couldn't help doing  a few things  to get ready for Autumn.

: #1 Change out summer flowers for Fall plants (keeping the greens). This only costs a few dollars to add the Mums and Pansies.   I have some fun plans for decorating my front porch later, but for now I am loving these colors.  It is a great way to welcome the season.

#2  Get the BIGGEST pumpkin you can possibly find...

Ok I am JUST KIDDING...actually I won this enormous pumpkin by guessing the correct weight at our local farmers stand (139 pounds to be exact)

It took 4 big strong teenagers (luckily I always have some of those hanging around:) to lift it from my car to my bedroom...just to make a seat for my littlest boy!

Actually, I wasn't sure what else to do with it until the temperatures drop enough to stick it outside. I was afraid it would cook on my front porch--I mean it is getting cooler, but I am in the South and it is still warm:)   My husband thinks it is very strange to have that thing in our room, but hey I am pretty darn proud of my guessing skills. (actually I am still shocked that I won--that is NOT EVER the case with me and guessing contests) I check it every couple days to make sure it is still nice and firm:) So far so good!

#3  Plug in a LEAVES Wallflower from Bath and Bodyworks.  Seriously love this smell.  It just smells like Fall to me, but doesn't make me hungry like pumpkin spice does:)  Although I do love pumpkin spice --but then it usually leads to some baking...ha ha!!
#4 Bake Some Pumpkin Bread.  This recipe is perfect--seriously!!  I love it and can never decide how to make it--plain, with a crumb topping or with a brown butter glaze.  Mmmmm.  You just can't go wrong with this treat:)  Pumpkin Bread = Fall, don't you think?  My favorite recipe here  at The Sisters Cafe.

I would love to hear how you get ready for Autumn...I always enjoy reading your emails and comments.  THANK YOU:)
Have a very happy weekend!

Pumpkin Bread. Now that sounds really good, and I feel more "fallish" just seeing that picture. :-)

I'm getting ready to do a USA BOOK TOUR with my new book, TOTAL HOME MAKEOVER, and I'd like to feature your blog on one of those days.

Let me know if you're interested.

love this post sis! That pumpkin is awesome!! can't wait to see how you arrange it on your porch. And I agree that your pumpkin bread recipe is the best. I made it last week with the brown butter glaze...oh my gosh, YUM!! I also like it with the crumb topping and also the way you used to make it with the mini choc chips pressed into the top. I love the fall too!!

that pumpkin is AWESOME! You can really tell how big it is by those boys hauling it in, and then Cannon sitting on top. I am so impressed with your guessing skills. :) Your pumpkin bread looks amazing, too. My
