Beautiful Paper Snowflakes Tutorial

Last night I made these fancy snowflakes with my cute young women at our church youth group night.  We had so much fun singing along to Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas" and crafting away.  I sure love these girls!

I put this picture on Instagram and had some requests to show how we did it.
They are SUPER easy--and fun to make and I think you all should know how to do it SO I had my boys help me take some pictures last night for a little tutorial:)  I hope this makes sense!

First you need 6 pieces of square paper, scissors, gluestick and a ruler (or anything with a straight edge really).  Fold each one separately corner to corner and then again to look like this:

Next draw lines starting on the open side, not the folded side.  They are about 3/4 inches wide and don't draw all the way to the end (stop about 3/4 inch to the end)  Like this:

obviously you won't want writing on your pretty snowflake--I was just doing that to show you:)
Next cut along your lines:

When you unfold the paper it will look like this:

Now take the two smallest triangles in the center and glue their tips together like this:

You may have to hold it for 30 seconds or so but then FLIP it over.  So you are working on the backside now.  Take the tips of the next triangle and glue those together like this:

Now continue flipping over and connecting tips, alternating front and back until all the triangles are glued:

 Until it looks like this:

Now repeat that process for the other 5.  Then glue them all together by one end like this:

This was so fun to do and they look so cool!
It may be just a little too big for the Christmas tree--but I bet smaller ones would look awesome!
Maybe with read paper or cardstock?  glitter?  The possibilities are endless.
I don't have girls, but I am thinking this would be pretty fun for a Frozen party as a craft or just to decorate!

My boys and I have plans to make more!  We have no snow here so we are going to make our own!
I will tell you that plain paper is a little floppy--which is fine if you are taping it to a window

I think we will make some our of cardstock to hang!
Let it Snow!!

Life in the South...

It's hard to believe that on Sunday it was beautiful and sunny, but it was!
After church Cannon was determined to learn to ride his bike without training wheels.
Which he mastered in a matter of minutes.  I had a twinge of guilt, realizing he could have done this months ago, if I would have worked with him sooner.  He has asked us to take those training wheels off for ages!

Then Bridger wanted to showcase some of his bike riding skills too:

On Monday it was freezing cold, but that didn't stop Connor and his friends from playing 9 holes after school.  This came up on his Instagram feed:
"Don't go for a ball out on the ice or you'll be golfing in high waters like me. #highwaters #PGAtour

Brrr---Crazy boy!
On Tuesday morning I was cleaning my room and opened the blinds to let in some sunshine and was shocked to see softly falling snow!
This was a huge surprise!  No one was expecting snow.  I knew it would just be a matter of time before the school called !  Soon enough, I was off to get the boys...

We LOVE snow days!
All the boys were excited, but this was a first for Cannon (that he could remember) and he was thrilled!

They wasted no time getting out and playing in the snow, fearing it would be gone all too soon!

We made hot cocoa, baked cookies, played games and cuddled up in warm blankets to watch movies.
It was such a wonderful day!!

And the following 2 days school has been cancelled due to COLD temps and lots of ice.  No new snow, but the couple inches we got has stuck around!

TJ "snowboarding" down his friend's driveway:

While the boys have LOVED every minute of this inclement weather...it really has caused lots of problems here in the deep south, where snow is rare.
Brad was trying to get home from the Atlanta airport yesterday and what should have been a 2 hour drive home turned into a 13 hour nightmare!

The interstate was as a standstill and some people were forced to spend the night in their cars!  He said the National Guard was out to help!

The roads were completely iced over and cars were sliding off the road everywhere.  Lots of accidents!  He spent hours tying to call and find a hotel, but they were all FULL.
He was put on waiting lists and finally got a call that there was an available room about half way home. I was glad he could get out of the mess, poor guy!!
He said he had a good night sleep, and he went straight to work this morning.

I am telling you this white stuff, literally shuts down the South!
Today I woke up to this:

Which makes me wonder if we will have yet another snow day tomorrow!
**Ha I just the call --School cancelled again tomorrow. This boys are running around cheering through the house:)

At least it is projected to be much warmer this weekend!

LIfe in the South: Snow Days!

We started Christmas break a day early here. Yes, another day of cancelled school due to "inclement weather".
And no, it doesn't look like this... darn it!

Our snow storm was more like this...

With this 'dusting' there was just enough snow for two excited little boys to slide around the yard pretending to make snowballs
and more than enough to get school cancelled!
It was also a great excuse to pull out our quilts from Grandma, make lots of hot cocoa and get cozy in front of the fire!

Nope we are not complaining!
Life in the South is pretty sweet!

Welcome March

Spring has Sprung in our house!

Bridger and I spent the morning putting out little birds, tulips, bunnies and pastel eggs while our sick little Cannon layed on the couch watching Dora and sipping apple juice
{poor baby}.
I am really hoping he is the last one to get this yucky cold!
I am so done with winter and being cooped up.
I am ready for fresh air, sunny days and playing outside!

Bridger especially likes these blue eggs. Now he keeps asking when the Easter Bunny is coming. I may have jumped the gun on these Easter decorations, huh?

I am enjoying these new birdy pillow covers I recently purchased.

As I hung this happy bouquet of tulips on my door, I almost slipped on...

my snow covered steps!

Evidently Spring has not Sprung outside yet!
Typical March weather!

Well, I better go get ready for my boys to be home. I am shocked that they even had school today! As you know it has been our experience, that they cancel schools here in the South at the first sight (or even prediction) of a snowflake.

It is really coming down now, so I am sure I will get the call any minute!

Happy Spring everybody:)

Post Script:

Yes I just got the call that School is being dismissed at 11am today due to the SNOW. The boys will be so excited! Upon hearing the news, Bridger was cheering and jumping up and down pumping his fists in the air!

He loves having 'the brothers' home!

Let it Snow!

While Brad and I were in Nashville (with no snow by the way) look what was going on at home! The boys were so excited they ransacked the house until they found some of their Utah snow clothes that I had put away in the attic!

They barely had time to make a snowman before it had all melted. I asked our cute baby sitters to take some pictures for me, since I guess this is quite rare. I have to admit I REALLY miss the snow. I was never one to complain about that white stuff. There is something so peaceful and beautiful about a world covered in snow! I loved it! But then again, I got to stay cozy in my home making cocoa for the boys. I may have felt differently if I had to commute in it! Connor and TJ got quite sick of shoveling the driveway last winter ! In fact I have reminded them that last year they both were heard wishing they could move somewhere with no snow. I guess they got their wish! They would like to take that back now:)

Good thing this happened on a Saturday, so they didn't have to cancel school. I hear that they do that around here for even a couple of inches! In fact they canceled school this morning ( 3 phone calls at 5am) because of all the rain and possible flooding. I have not seen any floods--but we have enjoyed our day together!

Brad and I had a great time in Nashville, but I was sad to miss playing in the snow with my boys. I had so much fun last year...remember our family of snow boys ?
I think we are going to have to spend Christmas in Utah next year.
What do you think Mom and Dad?

Merry Christmas from the Snow Boys!

I LOVE a white Chrstmas and looks like we are going to have one this year! Today it snowed and snowed and snowed--it was a beautiful , magical day! I couldn't resist letting my christmas to do list go, getting on my snow clothes and playing outside with my boys!

Tonight as I was locking up and turning out the lights I caught sight of the backside of these cute "snow boys" ... the fun day playing in the snow with my 5 boys came flooding back! Those are moments I will always treasure!

Sunday Morning Surprise

SNOW Look what we woke up to Sunday morning (October 12)! Coleman was the first one up and was bundled in his snow clothes and out playing before his brothers had even rubbed the sleep out of their eyes. It didn't take them long to join him though! We had to find all the gloves, boots and even whip up some hot cocoa!

This picture was taken on Friday afternoon just 2 days before the above pictures! Bridger is in shorts! Utah weather is very fickle in the fall! Crazy!! And I have to say--the snow is all melted and gone now and my flowers still look pretty good! I may have a couple more weeks of enjoying them, maybe.
